Engagement

Thank you for taking the time to consider being involved in discussing the opportunities involved in this project.

Over the last three years the Trust has been very focused on making headway towards our target of 20% reduction of manageable Nitrogen.  This focus has helped achieve a milestone of a 100,000 kg reduction in Nitrogen.

The Trust has to a great extent worked with the larger landowners in the catchment and predominantly with sheep and beef operations.  This has been mainly due to the good business opportunity involved with carbon forestry and the reality that larger farm holdings have more flexibility to cope with change.

We are however committed to ensuring that all parties within the catchment are aware of progress and opportunities.  This ‘engagement exercise’ therefore gives everyone a chance to have a say and consider their opportunities.

Combined with the implementation of Variation 5 the Trust’s work is somewhat unique in New Zealand and for the Trust, as much as anyone, it has been a learning exercise so far.

We are aware that while everyone in the catchment supports the need to maintain a clear, clean and healthy lake there are differing views on the approach taken.  This is a chance to learn more about the science, understand carbon opportunities, consider options relating to Nitrogen reduction but just importantly it is a chance to ask questions and make your ideas known.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to register an interest which you can do simply by clicking on the web link to register your name and email address with us.
